A new study from the Organic Trade Association (OTA) found that parents across the country are buying more organic food for their children due to growing agreement that organic is the healthiest option.

This comes as no real surprise as many recent studies have shown that organic produce has less pesticide residue and higher nutritional value than conventionally grown food.

Eating organic meat, eggs and dairy can reduce exposure to dangerous drug-resistant bacteria as antibiotics are prohibited in organic production, while conventionally raised livestock are over fed antibiotics, accelerating the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has gone as far as to recommend feeding children organic to reduce their exposure to pesticides and drug-resistant bacteria.

OTA’s study found that 90 percent of parents are now choosing organic for their kids at least sometimes, while almost one-quarter of parents are always buying organic.

These numbers are even higher when looking at purchasing habits of families with young children. More than one-third of these parents always choose organic for their infant or toddler and 74 percent of daycares across the country now offer organic options.

The trend toward more parents buying organic helps explain the nearly 12 percent jump in organic sales seen in 2013. It is expected that this upward trend will continue and families across America will continue to buy and eat more organic foods.
