The Organic Trade Association’s survey demonstrates that organic ranks highest in consumer recognition. More than 90% of consumers say they’re familiar with the USDA Organic seal, according to the results of a survey conducted by the Organic Trade Association. The association says 70% of consumers said the USDA Organic seal is trustworthy, coming in second only to the American Heart Association’s checkmark. Organic gardening company Back to the Roots has launched its Texas-made Organic Potting Mix, Garden Soil, and Raised Bed Mix in select The Home Depot stores throughout the Austin, Dallas, and Houston markets. About an hour outside of Houston, Back to the Roots has been cultivating its 100% organic, peat-free soil to package into its first-of-its-kind, 100% post-consumer recycled bags. Farmers in India are hit hard by extreme weather. Some say expanding natural farming is the answer. The region is frequently hit by cyclones and extreme heat, and farmers say that so-called natural farming protects their crops because the soil can hold more water, and their more robust roots help the plants withstand strong winds. Andhra Pradesh has become a positive example of the benefits of natural farming, and advocates say active government support is the primary driver for the state’s success. Experts say these methods should be expanded across India’s vast agricultural lands as climate change and decreasing profits have led to multiple farmers’ protests this year.
