MamaDoc RX Story: We’re Dr. Louisa and Dr. Kristin, pediatrician moms and the founders of Mamadoc Rx. At the heart of our story are our exceptionally high standards for what we recommend for our patients and give our kids. In our clinic, we frequently heard from families who were interested in natural health solutions for their kids. Like many of our physician colleagues, we were initially hesitant to make recommendations because what was on the market lacked quality, safety, transparency, and scientific evidence. As we investigated further we found there is a growing body of research that supports the safety and health benefits of certain minerals and vitamins. What started as a curious exploration of the science behind supplements and natural remedies became a passion project. We set out to create a higher standard for natural health supplements for kids and teens using the principles of evidence-based medicine. Our formulas use only high-quality organic ingredients, backed by science, nothing else. We leave out artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors, vague label terms, and unnecessary fillers.
- Why did you choose to create a certified organic product?
We feel strongly that choosing natural health options should not mean having to compromise on science, safety or quality. Supplements operate under looser regulatory requirements, so it can be tough to tell you are getting what the label says or that what’s inside is high quality and free of contaminants. As pediatrician-moms, safety, quality and transparency are non-negotiables. Choosing organic adds an extra layer of quality regulation and sets a high standard for our ingredients. In addition, minimizing any negative impact on the planet is a priority for us. We are passionate about sustainability and raise our families with a profound love and respect for nature and the planet. Since our life’s work is caring for babies and children, doing our part to protect our planet for them and their future is a priority. Organic for us is also an intentional environmental choice.
2. How long has your brand been certified organic?
From the start! We just launched end of 2024. Our first two products to launch are Organic Vitamin D chewable and Organic Probiotic Immune Defense.
3. Is it difficult to source certified organic ingredients?
As far as organic supplements and vitamins, some are more difficult to source than others. Some of our future products may be primarily organic ingredients, but not certified depending on availability, but hopefully that’ll change. It’s a priority for us to source as many organic ingredients as possible.
4. What myth would you like to bust about being an organic food pioneer or the organic industry as a whole?
One myth we see is that the organic industry is not enough to make an impact environmentally or health-wise; that the problems with the current system of food production, the risk of harmful exposures, and climate change are all just too big. The truth is though, by choosing to be an organic pioneer and participate in the organic industry you are helping to shift the consumer culture towards more intentional, eco-conscious, and health-conscious choices. The cumulative effect from each individual product produced in ethical ways and purchased by consumers, to the growth of big consumer-facing organic companies that are contributing to public education and social change, are helping at multiple levels of the supply chain.
5. What is the biggest challenge you face as an organic pioneer?
As a small new company, the biggest initial challenges are just sourcing organic certified suppliers and manufacturers and navigating the process of certifying our products. There is some additional upfront expense as well. But it is worth it to us!
6. Where do you see organic food, farming, and products in the next 5 years?
We see more and more innovative organic brands emerging and the industry and awareness continue to grow! Our hope is that the momentum continues to grow and not only does awareness increase but accessibility and affordability of organic products in order to reach more consumers.
7. What advice would you give to a younger generation of entrepreneurs looking to get into the organic industry?
Is it challenging in the beginning, yes, but it is also worth it. In addition to feeling good about creating a higher quality, safer and more regulated product that is thus more valuable to consumers, you are making a positive environmental choice as well as entering an exciting and supportive world of fellow organic suppliers and business owners that are making conscious and ethical choices to help make change for the better.
